Sanjay Yadav was born on 10 May 1995 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father Ram Singh Yadav is a daily wage labourer. His brother Sonu Yadav is also a cricketer and has played many state and district level matches. They have also had to play against each other in many matches. His mother Mayadevi is a housewife. She has a younger sister. Sanjay enrolled in Maharishi Vidya Mandir but changed his school in 2010 and completed his schooling from RV Government Boys High School, Hosur. He graduated in B.Sc. (Statistics) from Loyola College, Chennai.
When Sanjay was playing matches for the school, his coach M. Premnath asked him to join his academy, “Future Indian Cricket Academy, Hosur”. It had been a few days since Sanjay had gone, but he did not have money to pay the fees of the academy.
